[opinion] The Role of Art and Culture – Part 1
What is the difference between situation A and situation B? We are seeing two different depictions of two interactions. One is that of a consumer receiving (education, enlightenment, entertainment); the other is that of a consumer giving or responding (complaints, compliments). [YT] “Robin Hood, King Arthur, and Hollywood’s Problem with Public Domain Properties” (Willems)
A challenging YouTube commentary! I would also add that both of these myths/legends – King Arthur and Robin Hood – evoke a joyful masculinity, which was lost after the World Wars. [YT] Kingdom of Heaven Original Soundtrack: Disc 4 (Miscellaneous Artists)
This film is a beautiful masterpiece, under-appreciated due to the unfortunate theatrical release. The Director’s Cut of Kingdom of Heaven is a tour de force. The music, like the film, was obviously a source of conflict as various other pieces were inserted by Ridley Scott in replacement of Harry Gregson-William’s work. Although I love Harry…
