A challenging YouTube commentary!
I would also add that both of these myths/legends – King Arthur and Robin Hood – evoke a joyful masculinity, which was lost after the World Wars. Not only did the ideals of honour and chivalry die but also the blind belief in the ability of man (both figuratively and metaphorically) to create a better world. The fantasy of these myths lie in joy and hope. Unfortunately the hyper-realism required of films today also strips these narratives of the unique qualities that define them. As a result, King Arthur, Robin Hood, and their men feel tired, defeated, and… boring.
